About The Project
Live From The Frontlines is both a feature-length documentary film and livestream web-series that were created to lift up and amplify the stories of frontline community members who are being adversely impacted by neighborhood drilling and extreme oil and gas extraction in California.
Through the interviews of frontline community members and the documentation of these extreme extraction sites, we want to educate you, California voters and the global community about the devastating impacts of living on the frontlines of oil and gas extraction. With your support, we will be able to travel to every impacted community in California to hear their stories and show our audience what is actually taking place in people's backyards.
Right now, and over the coming months, our crew will be traveling throughout the state to meet and interview frontline community members and organizers. We will also be visiting thousands of oil and gas extraction sites that are disproportionately impacting low-income communities and communities of color.
California is the only major oil-producing state in the nation (along with Alaska) with no setback limits between oil operations and sensitive areas like homes, schools, and parks. These toxic oil drilling operations are legally allowed to take place an arm's length away from where people live, work, learn, and play. More than 850,000 Californians currently live less than 2,500 feet away from an active oil or gas well, which is the scientifically recommended minimum setback limits needed to protect public health.
Many of the stories that we have filmed are not currently being reported in any major format, and it is imperative that Californians, as well as the rest of the global community, become informed about this critical topic. The fossil fuel industry is being allowed to legally poison frontline communities all over California while they drill for some of the dirtiest oil on the planet - and this must stop now.
With this documentary film, we will find a way to get our audience to truly begin to understand the very real struggles that frontline communities live with every day.
